New Learning - DFI Session 1

Today was the first Digital Fluency Intensive session.  It was great to meet and connect with colleagues as we commence this learning journey together.  Breaking into "digital bubbles" facilitated our gaining a better understanding and confidence with the content included in today's session.  I felt reassured by this and knowing that we are all in this together and can support one another with gaining our confidence in digital technologies.  I had been feeling a bit apprehensive about undertaking this as an online course but thoroughly enjoyed today's session and am already looking forward to our session next week.

I gained a lot of new understanding from this session and a lot of useful tips that I will be able to take back to the classroom for both myself and for my students.   Today reinforced for me the need to take it slow and provide support for students when introducing new learning.

It was great to gain some tips on how to organise my Google Drive such as prioritising folders and colour coding folders.  This is another thing that I will be able to take back into the classroom and assist my students with in order to assist their organisation.  I will also be utitlising the tip of getting my students into the habit of putting their initials first on documents that they create and/or share with me as this will assist me a great deal with locating students' work.

I developed my confidence with using the "voice type" tool and the "explore" tool when working on a Google doc.  This will definitely be something that I will work through with my students on our return to school in order to build their confidence with using these tools in their learning also.

Below is a document that I created using Google docs where I explored the use of inserting a table to create an informative poster.  I also utilised the website removebg.com to remove the background from the images I inserted.  This has helped me to gain more confidence with using Google docs to create a wider range of document types.

  1. Kia ora Linda,
A great idea to create a poster about Living Springs. Are you thinking to use the poster for advertising the camp?
Good to read you are gaining confidence in the tools we focussed on.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Maria, and also for your assistance yesterday in our "digital bubble". I decided to create something that I could use back in the classroom. We actually would have been at this Living Springs camp right now but have postponed it to August so hopefully we will be able to go then! See you next Thursday.
